
ST. JOHN’S, NL – Joe Blandisi netted the overtime winner for the Albany Devils Sunday against the St. John’s IceCaps at Mile One Centre to take a 2-1 victory. The win improves the Devils’ record to 24-16-1-1. The IceCaps move to 20-16-5-1.
During the extra frame, Blandisi rushed the puck into the offensive zone but ended up in the corner after his first attempt to score. Nick Lappin picked up the puck as Blandisi set up at the top of the crease and fed Blandisi the assisting pass to win the game. The goal marked Blandisi’s first point after missing 13 games due to injury and the assist marked Lappin’s second point since returning to Albany from New Jersey.
Jacob MacDonald opened the scoring at 12:02 of the first period when he scored a power play goal from the left side circle giving the Devils the lead. Carter Camper and John Quenneville picked up the two assists on the play.
St. John’s got on the board with just 44 seconds remaining in the first to tie the game. It was Charles Hudon who got the equalizer as he picked off a pass for a quick shot from the far side circle. His tally was unassisted.
Ken Appleby stopped 21 of 22 shots faced and improves his record to 12-6-0-0. St. John’s netminder Yann Danis faced 32 shots, stopping 30 of them. His record moves to 6-3-3-0.
The Devils travel to Rochester to take on the Americans Friday for a 7:05 pm puck drop.
