The New Jersey Devils today signed right wing Reid Boucher to an entry-level contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
Boucher, New Jersey’s third choice (fourth round) and 99th overall selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, joins the organization after spending the past two seasons with Sarnia (OHL). The 5-11, 195-lb. winger leads the Ontario Hockey League with 62 goals this season, 14 more than any other player in the league. He scored two goals in the Sting’s 8-7 win at Saginaw on March 2 to surpass Steven Stamkos’ club record of 58. Boucher also leads the league in power play goals (21) and game-winners (9, tie) and is fifth with 94 points on the year. He has totaled 90g-54a-144pts and 72 PIM in 132 games with Sarnia over the past two seasons, while adding 2g-1a-3pts in six playoff contests.
Boucher also appeared in one game for Albany (AHL) at the end of the 2011-12 campaign. Prior to his junior career, Boucher spent two seasons with the United States Development Program where he registered 43g-27a-70pts and 171 PIM in 101 games played.
