• TODAY’S TOP THREE
Devils Continue To Roll With Sixth Straight Win: For the third time this season, the Devils have a winning streak of six or more games. They held off the St. John’s IceCaps Wednesday for a 4-3 victory at Times Union Center. Mike Sislo extended his franchise-record goal streak to eight games – the longest in the AHL this season – and Yann Danis registered his franchise-best seventh consecutive victory. Paul Thompson contributed a goal and an assist and Matt Lorito had two helpers.
Preparing For The Trade Deadline: The NHL trade deadline is looming over the NHL and the AHL and many organizations will be positioning themselves for Stanley Cup runs or strategizing for years to come. There will certainly be many moves made before 3 pm on Monday that will impact both leagues. Head Coach Rick Kowalsky is fully aware of the impact transactions could have on Albany’s roster.
“We will keep a close eye on that,” Kowalsky said. “Obviously as a fan, you see how it impacts NHL clubs, but as a coach you certainly see the difference it’s going to make in the AHL teams.”
Encouraged To Shoot More, McPherson Scores: The Devils’ Coaching Staff has been asking Corbin McPherson to shoot more. During Wednesday’s victory, he created several chances for himself and found the back of the net for his first goal of the season and first since Jan. 3, 2015 at Bridgeport. When asked to describe his goal, McPherson used terminology not used often in everyday language: “I burned the ice with some floor cheese.”
