• TODAY’S TOP THREE
The Week That Was: The Devils mounted three comebacks this weekend for three more wins. They forced overtime with 6.8 seconds remaining at Binghamton Friday only to score the game-winning goal 12 seconds into the extra frame for a 3-2 victory. Albany then scored three goals in the third period to knock off Utica, 4-3, Saturday. Finally, after falling behind early, the Devils scored two power-play goals in the second period and then netted the game-winner in the closing seconds of regulation, beating Toronto, 3-2, Sunday.
O’Brien Sparked Devils Three-Win Weekend: Jim O’Brien led the Devils with six points, including two goals and four assists. He had a hand in all three of Albany’s goals at Binghamton and followed with a pair of goals against Utica. To cap the weekend, he assisted on the game-winning tally against Toronto. The 27-year-old was a +6 during the three games.
O’Neill Dealing With Lower-Body Ailment: Brian O’Neill, the reigning AHL MVP, missed Sunday’s game with a lower-body injury. Head Coach Rick Kowalsky indicated that he may be back in the lineup for Wednesday’s 7 pm contest against Providence. O’Neill, who started the season with New Jersey, has played 30 games for Albany this season, producing nine goals, 13 assists and a +6 rating.
“Lower body,” Kowalsky confirmed after Sunday’s game. “It was just bothering him Friday and he aggravated it yesterday. Hopefully, the next couple of days he’ll get some rest and feel good.”
