SPRINGFIELD, MA – Tied with 21 points each, Friday’s 7 pm game at MassMutual Center between the Albany Devils and the Springfield Falcons is a battle for the top spot in the Northeast Division. Albany is on a four game winning streak and has won five of its last six outings, while Springfield is on a three game streak and has also won five of its last six.

– With three more games played, the Devils are second in the Northeast Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference at 10-6-0-1 (21 pts.). The Falcons are first in the division and third in the conference at 10-3-0-1 (21 pts.). Albany is 5-2-0-1 on the road, while Springfield is 6-2-0-0 at home.

Joe Whitney, who is on a four game point streak, continues to lead the Devils with 17 points, which ranks 15th overall in the AHL. Additionally, he is first with seven goals and 10 assists.

– Rookie defenseman Reece Scarlett netted his first career goal, scoring during the second period at Syracuse Saturday. Drafted 159th overall by New Jersey in 2011, Scarlett has appeared in 14 AHL games, posting three points (1g-2a) and a +2 rating.

– Springfield is coming off a 2-1 shootout win at Portland Saturday. Darryl Boyce scored during regulation and Mike McKenna posted 35 saves for his fourth win of the season.

– McKenna, who was a member of the Devils organization between 2009-11, is second in the AHL behind Keith Kinkaid with a 1.92 goals-against average. Additionally, McKenna is fifth in the league with a .929 save percentage.

Devils vs. Falcons Series
The Devils and Falcons are meeting for the 53rd time. The Devils are 26-21-1-4 overall with a 12-10-1-3 home mark and a 14-11-0-1 road record. Last season, Albany went 4-1-0-1 against Springfield. The teams last met on Apr. 2 at MassMutual Center. Reid Boucher, Harri Pesonen and Jacob Josefson each scored and Keith Kinkaid made 35 saves in a 3-1 victory.

Albany and Springfield will meet again at Times Union Center on Dec. 4, Jan. 3, Jan. 7 and Apr. 19. Games at MassMutual Center are on Jan. 10, Feb. 4 and Mar. 14.

Albany has won five of its last six road games, including its last three. Away from Times Union Center, the Devils have earned 11 points with a 5-2-0-1 record. They are outscoring opponents 22-17.
