UTICA, NY – Coming off a four-point weekend, the Albany Devils begin their second straight three-in-three with a 7 pm outing Friday against the Utica Comets at the Memorial Auditorium. The game marks the halfway point of the season for the Devils, who boast a franchise best 21-11-3-2 record.
– The Devils are second in the Northeast Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference at 21-11-3-2 (47 pts.). The Comets are fifth in the North Division and 15th in the Western Conference at 11-19-2-3 (27 pts.). Albany is 9-5-1-2 on the road, while Utica is 6-10-1-2 at home.
– Adam Larsson was loaned from New Jersey last Thursday and appeared in all three games last weekend. He registered an assist Friday and followed with a trio of helpers Saturday. In 36 career AHL games, he has 13 points with four goals and nine helpers.
– Scott Timmins registered a season-high three points when he potted a pair of goals and added an assist against Manchester Saturday. The night before he contributed an assist at Springfield. Timmins is second on the Devils with 22 points, including nine goals and 13 assists, in 23 outings. He is five points away from his 100th career AHL point.
– The Comets are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss at San Antonio Monday. Nicklas Jansen registered a pair of goals and Mathieu Corbeil made 21 saves on 23 shots.
Devils vs. Comets Series
The Devils and Comets are meeting for just the third time in franchise history. The teams began their Thruway Rivalry on Oct. 12 at Times Union Center and on Oct. 23 at the Utica Auditorium. The Devils won both games 3-2 and 4-1.
Last time out, Joe Whitney registered two goals and added an assist. Keith Kinkaid made 22 saves to secure the 4-1 victory. Whitney and Jon Merrill scored first period goals. Chris McKelvie scored midway through the third before Whitney sealed the win with an empty net goal. The two teams will meet again on Feb. 23 at Times Union Center.
Before the Comets, the last AHL team to occupy the Auditorium was the Utica Devils (1987-93). Albany assistant coach Tommy Albelin and New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur both played for Utica.
