HARTFORD, CT — The Albany Devils were an inch away from forcing overtime and securing at least one point for the seventh time in nine outings. Instead Scott Timmins‘ redirect with three seconds remaining hit the post and the Hartford Wolf Pack skated away with a 4-3 victory Saturday at XL Center.

Albany fell behind 3-1 after the first 2:02 of the third period, but fought back thanks to two goals 28 seconds apart. Mike Sislo scored off a loose puck left over from a Harri Pesonen bid at 6:29 and Joe Whitney buried a wrister from the left circle at 6:57.

The lead went back to Hartford when Ryan Bourque scored the game-winner off an odd-man rush at 12:25.

The Devils skated with a 6-on-4 advantage during the final minute of play with a Wolf Pack player in the penalty box and netminder Scott Wedgewood on the bench for the extra attacker. Alexander Urbom fired the shot that hit Timmins’ stick before striking iron and being covered by goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris.

Albany moves to 30-19-3-6, while Hartford, winners of six of its last seven, improve to 25-27-0-6.
