Split into two teams, the Albany Devils participated in their first inter-squad scrimmage Sunday morning at AmeriHealth Pavilion. Team White used a pair of first-period goals and an empty netter to claim a 3-1 victory against Team Red. Jacob Josefson was credited with the game-winning goal, while Alexandre Carrier and Harri Pesonen also contributed goals in a winning effort.
Josefson’s tally came with one minute remaining in the first when a loose puck in front of the net found its way onto his stick for a quick touch into a gapping net. Unofficially, Pesonen and Alexander Urbom appeared to have the assists on the tally.
Earlier in the period, Carrier was crossed checked down in front of Team Red’s net. Instead of rewarding Team White with a power play, Carrier was given a penalty shot, which he converted by going five hole with 8:53 on the clock.
After Mike Hoeffel pulled Team Red within one with 7:47 left in the second, Pesonen made the score 3-1 with 9.7 seconds with an empty-net tally.
The game was divided into three, 16-minute periods and all four goaltenders divided responsibilities. Maxime Clermont started for Team White and was replaced by Keith Kinkaid, while Jeff Frazee started for Team Red and was swapped by Scott Wedgewood.
