The team celebrates after Jacob Josefson scored shorthanded

NEWARK, N.J. – Newcomer Scott Parse registered a shorthanded goal and an assist and Jacob Josefson also scored shorthanded as the Albany Devils defeated the Adirondack Phantoms, 2-1, Friday afternoon at AmeriHealth Pavilion in a scrimmage.

Parse, who signed with Albany as a free agent on Sept. 26, opened the scoring, going five hole on Adirondack’s Cal Heeter at 12:39 of the second period.

After Adirondack’s Andrew Johnston tied the game at 16:42, Parse and Josefson connected on a rush at 18:17. From the right hashmarks, Parse snuck a pass to Josefson to score into a wide-open net.

Scott Wedgewood started in goal for Albany and was replaced midway through the contest after making 16 saves on 16 shots. Keith Kinkaid stepped in and turned away nine shots on 10 attempts.

Although the contest was considered a scrimmage, the Devils are 3-0 this preseason with one to play. They beat the Phantoms on Tuesday, 5-3, and the Connecticut Whale on Wednesday, 3-1, in exhibition games. They conclude their preseason schedule with a game at the Binghamton Senators on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
