DEVILS DIGEST (2.21.2012)

The second largest crowd in Devils history was on hand to watch Albany shut out the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 3-0, Saturday at the Times Union Center. For the Devils, the game was part of back-to-back wins that also included a 4-2 routing of the Binghamton Senators Sunday.

The Devils enter the week just outside the top eight in the Eastern Conference. They hit the road for three pivotal conference games this weekend at Syracuse, Manchester and Bridgeport.

- For the second time in three weeks, the Devils packed 8,000-plus fans into the Times Union Center to witness a 3-0 victory. On Saturday, 8,114 fans experienced the Devils win against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. It was the second largest crowd in franchise history behind the 8,194 fans who were on hand against Adirondack on Jan. 28.

- The Devils are 9-3-0-0 when leading after the first period and 17-1-1-0 when leading after two.

Jeff Frazee made 32 saves against the Penguins Saturday for his second shutout of the season and ninth of his four-year career. Combined with Keith Kinkaid’s three shutouts this year, the duo has helped the Devils set a club record for shutouts in a single season with five.

- Three times this season rookie Joe Whitney has produced three points in a game. He most recently accomplished the feat with three helpers in a 3-0 victory against Binghamton Sunday. Whitney, who also posted a plus-2 rating during that game, leads the team with 29 points, including a club-best 12 goals.

Eric Gelinas and Steve Zalewski each scored power-play goals this weekend, giving them both a team-high five man-advantage tallies. For the season, Gelinas is first among Devils defensemen with 20 points backed by 10 goals and 10 assists. Zalewski ranks tied for second on the team with 28 points, including 11 goals and 17 helpers.

Vladimir Zharkov scored the game-winning goal and added an empty-net tally against Binghamton Sunday. He now has points in four of his last six games, producing three goals and an assist during that span. He is tied for second with 28 points, including a team-high 18 assists.
