
SYRACUSE, NY – The Albany Devils fell 2-1 in overtime to the Syracuse Crunch Saturday at the War Memorial at Oncenter. With the loss, the Devils move their record to 34-25-2-2 and fall three points behind first place Syracuse. The Crunch improve their record to 32-21-6-5.
After a scoreless 40 minutes, Matthew Peca got Syracuse on the board first at 2:10 of the third period. Michael Bournival and Erik Condra picked up the assists on the play.
Brian Gibbons netted the equalizer with under three minutes remaining in regulation after tipping in a Karl Stollery shot. Seth Helgeson was credited the second assist.
Peca got the game winner at 1:13 of the extra frame on a power play tally after Shane Harper got called for interference at :12 of the period. Matt Taormina and Tye McGinn earned the assists.
Ken Appleby turned aside 23 of 24 shots in regulation and 2 of 3 shots in overtime. His record moves to 16-11-2. For Syracuse, Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 41 of 42 shots, all in regulation to improve his record to 13-9-6.
The Devils travel to take on the Thunderbirds in Springfield Sunday for a 3:05 pm face off.
