Devils ink Helgeson


ALBANY, NY –– The Albany Devils today signed Seth Helgeson to an amateur tryout agreement. The announcement was made by Albany Devils General Manager Chris Lamoriello.

Helgeson, 22, was drafted in the fourth round (114th overall) by New Jersey during the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He joins Albany after four seasons with the University of Minnesota of the WCHA. As a Gopher, he registered seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points in 150 games. This season, Helgeson posted five assists in 40 contests.

During his time at Minnesota, the Gophers advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2012 and played in the NCAA West Regional in 2013. An All-WCHA Academic Team honoree in 2012 and 2013, Helgeson received the team’s Donald M. Clark Community Service Award as a freshman and sophomore.

The 6-5, 215 lb. defensemen represented the United States at the 2007 and 2008 World Junior A Challenge, winning gold his second year. Helgeson also played two seasons with Sioux City of the USHL, totaling seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points in 116 games between 2007-09.

Helgeson was born on Oct. 8, 1990 in Faribault, Minn.
