BUFFALO – John Quenneville and Joseph Blandisi led all New Jersey Devils rookies during the team’s trip to the Prospect Challenge this past weekend in Buffalo. Quenneville had a goal and two assists and Blandisi had a pair of goals. New Jersey went 0-1-1 with a 6-2 loss against the Buffalo Sabres Saturday and a 4-3 OT setback against the Boston Bruins Sunday.
Alexandre Goulet and Matt Lorito also contributed goals during the two-game schedule. Goaltenders Mackenzie Blackwood and Ken Appleby split duties. Blackwood made 51 saves Saturday and Appleby made 36 stops Sunday.
“It was a great experience,” said Albany Devils Head Coach Rick Kowalsky, who was the Devils bench boss during the weekend. “It was a first time for me and a first time for a lot of these kids. It was a quick turnaround for preparing for these games with one practice.
“These guys are the future of the organization and we were able to get an idea of what type of players they are and what type of people they are. Some of these kids we are going to see in the real near future and some of these kids a little more down the road. Overall, I thought it was a great experience for everyone involved.”
