COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – New Jersey Devils forwards Stephen Gionta and Ryan Carter have been added to the 2013 U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2013 IIHF Men’s World Championship. The tournament is scheduled for May 3-19 in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden.
Gionta split time between Albany and New Jersey this season. Albany signed the 29-year-old center on Dec. 13 and he appeared in 11 games before the NHL resumed play in mid-January. Gionta is the AHL Devils all-time leader for games played (371), goals (58) and points (140). This season with New Jersey, he appeared in all 48 contests, producing 14 points with four goals and 10 assists.
Carter, who joined the Devils organization during the 2011-12 season, played 44 games with New Jersey this past year. He registered 15 points, including six goals and nine assists. Carter played on the U.S. Men’s National Team during the 2010 IIHF Men’s World Championship.
Team USA’s roster now includes 12 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders on its roster. The maximum roster size is 25, which includes three goaltenders and 22 forwards and defensemen.
