LATHAM, N.Y. – CEO Chris Ciceri and head coach Rick Kowalsky joined Siena Athletics and Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees today to donate 500 pounds of coffee to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. The donation – the equivalent of 16,000 cups of coffee – was fueled by separate season-long partnership agreements between Dunkin’ Donuts and the Capital Region sports teams along with an additional donation by Dunkin’ Donuts.
During the recently concluded Siena men’s basketball and Albany Devils seasons, Dunkin’ Donuts pledged to donate one pound of coffee to the Regional Food Bank for every Saints dunk and for every home goal scored by the Devils. The Albany Devils of the American Hockey League lit the lamp 103 times while the Siena Saints of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference recorded 47 dunks.
Dunkin’ Donuts and its Capital Region franchisees contributed an additional 350 pounds of coffee to bring the final total to 500 pounds, or one-quarter ton, of fresh brewed Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.
“Our partnerships with Siena Athletics and the Albany Devils are designed to capture the excitement of each slam dunk and goal and turn them into a tangible benefit for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York,” said Dunkin’ Donuts Field Marketing Manager Eric Stensland. “Both the Siena men’s basketball team and the Albany Devils generated tremendous excitement for their fans. We are proud to augment their play on the court and on the ice with an additional donation of 350 pounds of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee for the food bank.”
“We’re thrilled to have a partnership with Dunkin’ Donuts that provides the opportunity to assist a valuable organization like the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York,” Ciceri said. “Every home goal we scored this season had that much more significance knowing it would have a positive impact on the lives of our friends and neighbors.”
“Siena Athletics is proud to take part in this outstanding initiative to benefit the Regional Food Bank,” said Siena College Director of Athletics John D’Argenio. “The mission of Siena College is deeply rooted in the Franciscan value of service and our student-athletes are committed to giving back. Dunkin’ Donuts has been a great partner and we applaud its commitment to the food bank and those it serves.”
The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization that collects donated food from the food industry and distributes it to nearly 1,000 charitable agencies feeding the hungry in 23 counties of northeastern New York. The food provided by the Food Bank helps to feed more than 40,000 people each week. In 2011, the organization distributed over 25 million pounds of food to the hungry.
“Many of us look forward to a cup of coffee each morning and see it as an essential part of starting our day,” said Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York Executive Director Mark Quandt. “We are extremely grateful that Dunkin’ Donuts teamed up with Siena Athletics and the Albany Devils to give back to our food bank and allow us to provide coffee for thousands of residents in need throughout our area.”
