For the majority of the second half of the season, the Devils were chasing the Binghamton Senators for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately, the Devils ran out of time, but the Senators season extended well into May and June.
Binghamton entered the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs as the seventh seed and knocked off second-seed Manchester in seven games, top-seed Portland in six and fifth-seed Charlotte in four for a chance to take on Western Conference Champion the Houston Aeros for the league title.
The season culminated with a pair of back-to-back victories for the upstate New York team, which earned the city of Binghamton’s first professional championship.
During the regular season, the Devils and Senators squared off eight times and Albany had great success, beating the Calder Cup champs five times.
