Jon Merrill's rookie season was spent mostly in the NHL. The 22-year-old appeared in 52 games with New Jersey and posted two goals and nine points. In dramatic fashion, he netted his first career goal on Feb. 7 against Edmonton in overtime.
In the AHL, Merrill, who was selected 38th overall during the 2010 NHL Draft, played 15 games and had two goals and eight assists. During four playoff games, he registered a goal and an assist.

He’s the real deal. I thought he was outstanding in Carolina. When he’s not in the lineup we miss him. He has a rare ability, with the composure to make plays under pressure, to never panic with the puck and always be in the right position.
