NJ Devils open 2013-14 season at Pittsburgh

The Devils will open their 2013-14 regular-season schedule on Thursday, October 3 at Pittsburgh (7:00 PM), before returning home on Friday, October 4 to face the New York Islanders at Prudential Center at 7:00 PM.

The home portion of the Devils’ schedule includes 23 weekend dates, including ten Friday games, eight Saturday contests and five Sunday matches. Prudential Center will present matinees on Tue., Dec. 31 vs. Pittsburgh (1:00 PM); Sun., Mar. 2 vs. San Jose (3:00 PM) and Sun., Apr. 13 vs. Boston (3:00 PM). As part of the NHL’s Stadium Series™, the club will host the New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium on Sun., Jan. 26 at 12:30 PM. All other home games are set for 7:00 PM, with the exception of six 7:30 PM starts: Tue., Oct. 29 vs. Tampa Bay; Wed., Dec. 18 vs. Ottawa; Tue., Jan. 7 vs. Philadelphia; Mon., Feb. 3 vs. Colorado; Mon., Mar. 31 vs. Florida and Fri., Apr. 11 vs. NY Islanders. New Jersey will play a season-high five-game homestand from Tue., Mar. 18 through Thu., Mar. 27.

The Devils’ road schedule includes a season-high five-game road trip with stops Mon., Oct. 7 at Edmonton; Tue., Oct. 8 at Vancouver; Fri., Oct. 11 at Calgary; Sun., Oct. 13 at Winnipeg and Thu., Oct. 17 at Ottawa.

On March 14, the National Hockey League approved a realignment plan, creating two eight-team divisions in the Eastern Conference and two seven-team divisions in the Western Conference. A new scheduling matrix ensures that all 30 teams play in all 30 arenas at least once a season.

The Devils will play 30 games vs. divisional opponents: five vs. NY Islanders and NY Rangers and four vs. Carolina, Columbus, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington. The club will play 24 non-divisional/intra-conference contests: three each vs. Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Florida, Montreal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Toronto. New Jersey will play 28 non-conference matches: two games each vs. Anaheim, Calgary, Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Nashville, Phoenix, San Jose, St. Louis, Vancouver and Winnipeg.
