ALBANY, NY — Albany Devils center Jim O’Brien, who left the third period during Saturday’s Game 2 with an upper-body injury, did not practice with the first group Monday morning.
However, O’Brien was on the ice for the second session and all signs point to him being in the lineup for Game 3 against the Utica Comets Tuesday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
“He didn’t need a full practice,” said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. “We gave him a choice of staying completely off just to give him an extra day or skate with the second group just to stay sharp as far as shooting and skating. It was more of a decision we kind of made. He wanted to go on the ice. We still have tomorrow, but he’s good to go for tomorrow.”
O’Brien has two goals and two assists during the series and had seven tallies and four assists during eight regular-season games against Utica.
Kowalsky did not rule out lineup changes for Game 3 despite the Devils leading the series 2-0 after Friday’s 3-2 win and Saturday’s 5-1 routing.
“We’ve had some discussions,” Kowalsky said. “There’s a possibility because of the amount of guys and the depth we have. Right now I would say no, but this afternoon and by tomorrow morning, we could look at some situations.”
The Devils will hold their morning skate at Times Union Center Tuesday before busing to Utica for the 7 pm game.
