Preview: Devils at Americans, 7:05 PM
ALBANY, NY – To start their home-and-home series, the Albany Devils and Rochester Americans meet Friday at 7:05 pm at Blue Cross Arena. The teams then make the three-and-a-half hour commute for a game Saturday at 5 pm at Times Union Center.
The Devils are trying to bounce back after a 4-3 setback against Providence Tuesday, while the Americans look for their third consecutive win. Albany is second in the North Division and third in the Eastern Conference at 26-13-7-0 (.641) and the Americans are fifth in the division and 11th on the conference at 23-21-2-1 (.521).
What To Watch For
• Albany: Brian O’Neill, who has seven points (2g-5a) in the last six games, is on a three-game streak with a goal and three helpers. Brandon Burlon, Matt Lorito and Mike Sislo are each on two-game streaks. Burlon has four assists and Lorito has two helpers. Sislo has three goals and an assist. Netminder Yann Danis has a streak of his own. He is 2-0-0 during his last two starts.
• Rochester: Phil Varone, Jason Akeson and Cal O’Reilly lead the Americans with 26 points each. Varone has a team-best 12 goals and 14 assists in 38 games and Akeson has seven tallies and 19 assists in 44 outings. O’Reilly has five goals and a club-best 21 helpers in 38 contests. Nathan Lieuwen is coming off a 23-save shutout last Saturday at Binghamton. He is 12-8-1 with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage in 21 appearances.

• All-Time: Friday’s game will be the 16th all-time between the two clubs and the Devils are 7-7-0-1 with a 4-3-0-1 home mark and a 3-4-0-0 road record.
• Last Meeting: Scott Wedgewood made 19 stops as the Devils shut out the Americans, 4-0, on Jan. 13 at Times Union Center. Mike Sislo posted a pair of assists. Brian O’Neill had multiple points, tallying a goal and a helper. Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, Matt Lorito and Reid Boucher also scored.
