The New Jersey Devils will cross both of New York City’s rivers to face off against the New York Islanders Wednesday at Barclays Center. Puck drop for the Devils third preseason game is at 7 pm.
Eric Gelinas, Seth Helgeson, Jon Merrill and Damon Severson are projected to be in the lineup on defense. The four played in Sunday’s preseason game against the Boston Bruins in Providence, RI. Marc-Andre Gragnani, Joshua Jacobs and Vojtech Mozik will join them on the blueline. Head Coach John Hynes will likely sit one of the seven defensemen traveling.
Reid Boucher will make his preseason debut after recovering from a concussion suffered at the Prospect Challenge at the beginning of the month. Adam Henrique, Kyle Palmieri and Pavel Zacha will also play. Tyler Kennedy and Lee Stempniak, who are in camp on a tryout basis, will get another look.
New Jersey’s netminders will be Cory Schneider and MacKenzie Blackwood.
The Devils are 0-2-0 this preseason and are coming off a 6-3 setback against the New York Rangers Monday. The Islanders are 1-1-0 in two games. They split their squad for a pair of games against the Philadelphia Flyers Monday. They prevailed 3-2 in one game, but lost 5-3 in the other.
Wednesday’s game will be televised on MSG+.
