A new group of New Jersey Devils will be on the ice Monday for their 7 pm game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. A different flight of players had participated in the team’s 2-0 loss against the Boston Bruins Sunday.
Head Coach John Hynes anticipates a more comprehensive game plan with each passing preseason game.
“We gave them a rough plan yesterday and some of that too is you just want to see if they can make some players and make some reads because you don’t have enough time to put in a structure,” he said after the morning skate. “There were a couple of teaching points today.”
The game will be Hynes’ first trip to Madison Square Garden and his first taste of the Devils-Rangers rivalry, which has produced countless memorable games throughout the years.
“It will be exciting,” He said. “You come in and you know how big of a rivalry it is and part of the Jersey culture. The Ranger-Jersey rivalry is exciting and Madison Square Garden — a historic building. So it’s nice we have an opportunity to have a preseason game there.”
Of the 20 players on the ice for Monday’s morning skate at AmeriHealth Pavilion, five appeared in at least one game for Albany last year: Brandon Burlon, Raman Hrabarenka,Adam Larsson, Rod Pelley and Mike Sislo.
The game between the cross-river rivals will be televised on MSG+.
