Preview: Devils at Wolf Pack, 7 PM
ALBANY, NY – The 2016 calendar year begins for the Albany Devils with a 7 pm game against the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday at XL Center. Coming off back-to-back wins against Utica earlier in the week, the Devils look to push their winning streak to four games.
Entering the contest, Albany is second in the North Division and third in the Eastern Conference with a 19-8-3-0 record (.683). Hartford is sixth in the Atlantic Division and 12th in the conference with a 14-16-2-0 mark (.469.).
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
• Albany: The line featuring Jim O’Brien centering Brian O’Neill and Paul Thompson has been a force during the Devils’ current winning streak. The trio has combined for five goals and five assists. During that stretch, O’Brien has three goals and an assist. Thompson has a goal and three helpers and O’Neill has a tally and an assist.
• Hartford: The Wolf Pack have won two straight and three of their last four outings. Chad Nehring and Jayson Megna lead the team with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Nehring has 10 goals and 10 helpers and Megna has seven goals and 10 assists. Brian Gibbons is third with 16 points, backed by five tallies and 11 assists.
DEVILS VS. WOLF PACK SERIES
• All-Time: The Devils and Wolf Pack are set to meet for the 64th time and the Devils hold the series advantage with a 33-23-2-5 record, including a 1-0-0-0 mark this season. All-time, Albany is 18-9-1-3 at home and 14-14-1-2 on the road.
• Last Meeting: Yann Danis was perfect, making 24 stops in the Devils 4-0 win at the Hartford Wolf Pack on Nov. 7. Half of Danis’ saves came during the third period. Mike Sislo (shorthanded), Corey Tropp, Reid Boucher and Blake Coleman each scored. Tropp and Coleman assisted on each other’s goals.
