DEVILS VETOED BY SENATORS

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Coming off a short Holiday break, the Albany Devils fell, 8-3, to the Binghamton Senators Monday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. These two teams squared off Wednesday with the Devils claiming a 3-0 lead.

With the loss Monday, the Devils go to 14-12-3-2, while the Senators improve to 12-19-1-1.

Joe Whitney had a goal and two assists and was joined in the goal column by Eric Gelinas and Mike SisloMike BanwellVladimir Zharkov and goaltender Keith Kinkaid added helpers. In goal, Kinkaid made 16 stops and Timo Pielmeier had eight saves in relief.

For Binghamton, Stephane Da Costa had three tallies and Corey Cowick registered a goal and two assists. Mike HoffmanCorey Locke and Mark Parrish each had a goal and an assist. Mike McKenna made 36 saves for the win.

Hoffman opened the scoring at 2:20 of the first period, but the Devils responded with goals by Gelinas and Sislo 51 seconds apart early in the second period. Gelinas fired a heavy slap shot from the right point at 1:39, while Sislo snapped a wrist shot from the right circle on the power play at 2:30.

The Devils lead lasted just three minutes and 21 seconds because Locke beat Kinkaid at 5:51. The tally started a four-goal, second period run for the Senators. Conboy scored at 8:00 on the power play, while Da Costa and Parrish followed at 14:29 and 15:13.

In the third, Da Costa netted his second at 2:11 and, after the goalie switch, Cowick found the back of the net at 3:08.

Whitney made the score 7-3 from Banwell at 7:17, but Da Costa completed the hat trick at 15:06 while operating a 5-on-3 power play.

The game was the fifth contest between these two teams this season. Binghamton owns the series lead 3-2-0-0.

The Devils have a quick turnaround. They travel to Connecticut Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest. Fans can hear the game on 104.5 “The Team” ESPN Radio.
