Devils Fall At Hershey

HERSHEY, PA -- Despite owning a 35-22 shot advantage, the Albany Devils couldn’t solve Hershey Bears goaltender Braden Holtby Saturday at Giant Center. The Devils, who were coming off a 5-1 win against the Adirondack Phantoms Friday, couldn’t secure their second win in as many nights, falling to the Bears, 3-0.

The loss moves Albany to 2-4-0-0, while the win improves the Bears to 2-3-1-0.

Holtby posted his first shutout and his first win of the season. At the other end, Keith Kinkaid turned aside 19 shots in his third appearance.

The Bears received goals from Zach HamillJeff Taffe and Tomas Kundratek. Hamel scored from Ryan Stoa and Kundratek at 17:10 of the first period and Taffe scored fromGarrett Stafford and Kundratek at 5:28 of the second. That goal came on the power play.

Kundratek finished his night with an empty-net tally, giving him a three-point night.

The Devils finished 0-for-2 with the man advantage, while the Bears went 1-for-7.

Albany returns to action Friday against the New York Rangers affiliate, the Connecticut Whale, at 7 pm at the Times Union Center.

Coming off a commanding 5-1 victory against the Adirondack Phantoms, The Devils travel to Hershey Saturday to take on the Hershey Bears at Giant Center at 7pm. The game will be both team’s second is as many nights and it will be the first of four regular-season meetings between the Devils and the Bears..

Notables 
-Albany ranks tied for fourth in the Northeast Division and tied for tenth in the Eastern Conference with a 2-3-0-0 record (4 pts.), while the Bears fourth in the East Division and tied for 13th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 1-3-1-0 (3 pts.). The Devils are 1-0-0-0 on the road and the Bears are 0-1-1-0 at home.

-The Devils defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 5-1 Friday to earn their first home win of the season. Jacob JosefsonMatt Anderson and Adam Larsson all had multi-point games and Jeff Frazee turned aside 23 shots for his first win of the year.

Adam Henrique converted on a penalty shot in the second period against the Phantoms. The tally came after Adirondack’s Zac Rinaldo scored on a penalty shot earlier in the game. It marked the first time since Dec. 7, 1996 (Springfield vs. Providence) that two penalty shots were successfully converted in an AHL contest.

- Hershey is coming off a 3-1 setback Friday at the Connecticut Whale. Dmitry Orlov scored the Bears lone goal and Danny Sabourin made 26 saves on 28 shots.

-Jeff Taffe leads the Bears with seven points, including two goals and five assists.

Hershey’s Boyd Kane netted two goals, including a power play tally in the second period in the Bears  4-1 win over the Devils at Times Union Center. The Devils fell to a 2-0 deficit in the first, but Vladimir  Zharkov, the Devils lone goal scorer, pulled one back before the end of the period. Kane scored on the  power play late in the second period to give the Bears a 3-1 advantage and they would add an empty-netter to seal the 4-1 win.
