MANCHESTER, NH – In a game that included 10 goals, including six in the third period, the Albany Devils fell short, 7-4, against the Manchester Monarchs Saturday at Verizon Wireless Arena. The Devils attempted to erase a three-goal deficit in the third by scoring three goals, but the Monarchs withstood the charge, holding on for their third straight victory. For Albany, the setback halted a three-game winning streak.
Five of the game’s last seven goals came on the power play. The Devils went 3-for-7 with the man advantage, while the Monarchs went 2-for-3.
Matt Anderson, Harri Pesonen and Steve Zalewski each registered multi-point games. Anderson had three assists, while Pesonen and Zalewski both posted a goal and an assist. Adam Larsson and Mattias Tedenby supplied goals and Jay Leach, Corbin McPherson and Joe Whitney had assists.
For Manchester, Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli both had a pair of goals and an assist. Linden Vey posted four helpers and Bryan Rodney registered two assists. Andrei Loktionov, Brian O’Neill and Jordan Weal also had tallies.
Between the pipes, Jeff Frazee made 28 saves, while Manchester’s Peter Mannino had 33 stops for his ninth win.
Tied 1-1 after the first period, Manchester established a three-goal lead in the second. Toffoli scored at 14:20 and was followed by Pearson’s second goal at 16:12. Loktionov began the power-play scoring at 19:34.
The Devils opened the third with a power-play tally by Larsson at 4:14, but the Monarchs responded with O'Neill's goal seconds later at 4:29.
From there, Tedenby and Pesonen scored with man advantages. Tedenby’s eighth goal of the year came at 8:09 and Pesonen’s sixth was at 10:00. Manchester sealed the victory with Weal’s power-play goal at 12:31 and Toffoli’s empty-netter at 19:38.
The Devils return to Times Union Center Saturday with a 5 pm contest against the Worcester Sharks. As part of “GE Kids-In-Free” all children 12-and-under will receive free admission and the first 1,000 kids to arrive will receive a GE sponsored, Albany Devils t-shirt.

The Devils began the season with a goal in the opening minutes, but surrendered two power-play goals, falling to the Manchester Monarchs, 2-1, in front of 5,072 fans at Times Union Center. Chad Wiseman netted the first goal of the season off a rebound at 8:18, but the Devils lost the lead before the end of the first period.
The Monarchs responded 29 seconds later when David Kolomatis scored his first of two power-play goals. The first tally came at 8:47 and the second followed at 14:10. Keith Kinkaidmade 25 saves on 27 shots, while Manchester’s Martin Jones earned the victory with 22 saves on 23 tries.
