Devils Lose In Shootout

SPRINGFIELD, MA – After two goals during the first nine minutes of play, the Albany Devils and the Springfield Falcons didn’t score again, forcing overtime and a shootout. In the end, Springfield’s Wade MacLeod fourth round goal lifted his team to a 2-1 victory Saturday at MassMutual Center.

Despite the loss, the Devils still earned a point for the seventh time in the last 10 games (6-3-0-1). Overall Albany, which owned a 36-25 shot advantage, moves to 15-13-1-7, while Springfield improves to 23-9-3-3.

Eric Gelinas and Springfield’s Nick Drazenovic were responsible for the regulation goals. Gelinas’ fourth tally came after Drazenovic scored on a power-play at 7:10. Less than two minutes later, Gelinas wound-up for a bomb from the top of the right circle for a 5-on-3 power-play tally at 8:56.

Joe Whitney and Mike Sislo had the assists, extending points streaks for all three individuals involved. Gelinas streak goes to four games with two goals and three assists, while Whitney and Sislo’s move to three. Whitney has three goals and two assists during the span and Sislo has four helpers.

In the shootout, Phil DeSimone scored during the second round after Springfield’s Sean (B.) Collins gave his team an early advantage in the first. Before MacLeod’s deciding marker, Gelinas dinged a shot off the crossbar and wide.

Between the pipes, Jeff Frazee made 23 saves on 24 shots. Springfield’s Paul Dianton had 35 stops on 36 tries.

Coming off a 4-3 win against the Adirondack Phantoms last night, the Albany Devils travel to the Springfield Falcons for anther Northeast Division outing. The Devils are 2-0-0-0 against the first-place Falcons this season.

Notables 
- Albany is third in the Northeast Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference at 15-13-1-6, including an 8-6-1-2 road record. Springfield is first in the division and second in the conference at 22-9-3-3 (50 pts.), featuring a 10-5-1-3 home mark.

Brandon Burlon and Mike Sislo both registered a pair of helpers during the team’s win at the Glens Falls Civic Center. For Burlon it was his third two-assist game of the season and second in as many outings. For Sislo, the performance was his first two-assist showing since March. 2, 2012.
