ALBANY, NY — Standings watching is hard to avoid this time of the year. With eight games remaining in the regular season, the Devils are on the outside looking in, trailing the eighth-place Portland Pirates by seven points.
Albany has helped its cause as of late, winning four straight before dropping Wednesday’s outing against the first-place Manchester Monarchs.
Although their window of opportunity seems to get smaller with the April 18 finale approaching, the Devils are hoping to benefit from the layout of the schedule.
“We addressed it Tuesday and maybe delved into the schedule and the fact that we have teams ahead of us that we have to play,” said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky after Thursday’s practice at Times Union Center. “There are a lot of teams log jammed in that five to nine spot that have to play each other as well.
“One team or two teams hit a bump in a road and we continue to win games. All we can do is focus on our next game. We didn’t get any points yesterday and we have to get points Friday.”
Next up for Albany is the ninth-place Springfield Falcons. The two teams meet Friday at 7 pm at MassMutual Center.
