Getting Closer To Full Strength

The Albany Devils are nearing full strength. Well, sort of…

More than 10 months have passed since the Devils last had a game decided in a shootout. The time off didn’t appear to affect their performance because Mike Sislo and Jim O’Brien both scored, helping the Devils to a 4-3 victory against the Bruins Friday at Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

The Devils hopes for a seventh consecutive victory were dashed by a former Capital Region resident Sunday afternoon. Ex-Union College captain Mat Bodie scored 19 seconds into overtime to give the Wolf Pack a 4-3 win at XL Center.

The Devils had and lost three leads, but pulled out a come-from-behind victory with less than eight minutes remaining, defeating the Crunch, 6-4, Saturday. The win extended Albany’s home winning streak to nine games and its overall stretch to five straight.

After an hour and twenty-five minute delay, the Devils took care of business — as they usually do on home ice — defeating the Providence Bruins, 4-1, Saturday. Scott Wedgewood made 27 saves and Brian O’Neill, who was playing in his first game at Times Union Center in the red and black, netted the game-winning goal.

Backed by a pair of Jim O’Brien goals and three Corey Tropp assists, the Devils set a franchise record with their seventh consecutive victory, defeating the Syracuse Crunch, 3-1, Friday at Times Union Center.
