ALBANY, NY – Three games, three wins for the Albany Devils as they closed out 2015 and rang in 2016. The team defeated the Utica Comets during both games of a home-and-home series. The Devils earned a 3-2 overtime win Wednesday at Times Union Center before claiming a 4-1 victory Thursday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
The Devils concluded the week with a 4-3, come-from-behind victory against the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday at XL Center.
After 31 games, Albany is second in the North Division and third in the Eastern Conference at 20-8-3-0 (.694).
Reid Boucher and Jim O’Brien led all Devils with four points. Boucher registered a goal and an assist in the two-game set against Utica and had a goal and a helpers at Hartford. O’Brien netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, Wednesday and scored again Thursday. He concluded the week with an assist Saturday, extending his point streak to four games.
WEDNESDAY: DEVILS 3, COMETS 2 (OT)
Jim O’Brien scored his second goal of the night 58 seconds into overtime to help the Devils to a 3-2 victory against the Comets Wednesday at Times Union Center. Yann Danis made 24 saves as Albany won for the eighth consecutive time on home ice. Reece Scarlett’s first period tally complimented O’Brien’s second two-goal showing of the season.
THURSDAY: DEVILS 4, COMETS 1
The Devils dominance against the Comets continued Thursday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Jim O’Brien, Reid Boucher, Graham Black and Paul Thompson each scored in a 4-1 win. The Devils improved to 9-0-0-0 all-time against their in-state rival. In goal, Scott Wedgewood made 24 stops.
SATURDAY: DEVILS 4, WOLF PACK 3
After finding themselves trailing early, the Devils mounted a comeback to dismantle the Wolf Pack, 4-3, Saturday at XL Center. Matt Lorito scored twice and Reid Boucher had a goal and an assist. Netminder Scott Wedgewood extended his winning streak to three games with his fourth victory of the season. He made 30 stops, including 17 in the first period. Corey Tropp also scored and Joseph Blandisi registered a pair of helpers as the Devils moved their winning streak to four games.
