ALBANY, NY – Returning from the 2016 AHL All-Star break, the Albany Devils won both their games last week, defeating the Providence Bruins, 4-3, in a shootout Friday on the road and the Hartford Wolf Pack, 3-0, Saturday at Times Union Center.
Next up, the Devils have one of their busiest weeks of the season with four games: Tuesday vs. Providence (7 pm), Friday at Rochester (7:05 pm), Saturday vs. Rochester (5 pm) and Sunday vs. Bridgeport (3 pm).
Yann Danis, who started last week at the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic, played both games, going 2-0-0 with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage. He set a franchise record with his fifth shutout of the season Saturday. He moved ahead of Jeff Frazee, Keith Kinkaid and Scott Wedgewood, who had four shutouts during the 2008-09, 2013-14 and 2013-14 seasons, respectively.
Offensively, Brian O’Neill led all scorer with a goal, two assists and a +2 rating. He had a goal and an assist against the Bruins and followed with a helper against the Wolf Pack. In 17 AHL games this season, he has 13 points with five goals and eight assists.
Friday: Devils 4, Bruins 3 (SO)
In their first shootout since Apr. 3, 2015, the Devils prevailed, 4-3, against the Bruins Friday at Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Mike Sislo and Jim O’Brien both scored in the shootout and Yann Danis stopped both shots he faced. During regulation, Brian O’Neill and Corey Tropp both had a goal and an assist and Rod Pelley also scored. Danis finished the contest with 21 saves. Providence received goals from Austin Czarnik, Alexander Khokhlachev and Seth Griffith. Malcolm Subban had 21 stops.
Saturday: Devils 3, Wolf Pack 0
Yann Danis recorded his franchise record fifth shutout of the season, making 21 stops in the Devils 3-0 victory against the Wolf Pack Saturday at Times Union Center. Mike Sislo led all scorers with a goal and an assist. Ben Thomson and Paul Thompson also found the back of the net. Defensemen Brandon Burlon and Joe Faust were a +3 and +2, respectively.
