ALBANY, NY – A pair of road victories during Saturday and Sunday have moved the Albany Devils winning streak to five games, which is their third longest this season. Albany erased a two-goal deficit to beat the Utica Comets, 3-2, in overtime Saturday. The team then knocked off the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 5-2, Sunday.
The Devils own the second-highest points percentage in the entire AHL with a .676 mark. With just 25 games remaining, the team is 31-13-7-0.
Matt Lorito scored the game-winning goal during Saturday’s outing. He showcased his speed on the winning goal, pulling up at the red line and then zooming past two defenders. The goal was his 11th of the season and his 40th point, which ranks fourth among AHL rookies. The 25-year-old finished the weekend with an assist during Sunday’s affair.
Mike Sislo, who is arguably the hottest player in the AHL, extended his goal streak to a league-high seven games. He netted the tying tally against the Comets and had a shorthanded goal and an assist against the Sound Tigers. Since Feb. 6, he has registered eight goals and three assists. For the season, Sislo has a career-high and league-leading 25 goals. He ranks sixth in the AHL with a career-high 46 points.
Saturday: Devils 3, Comets 2 (OT)
Dan Kelly and Mike Sislo helped the Devils erase a two-goal deficit and Matt Lorito scored the overtime winner in a 3-2 victory against the Comets Saturday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Albany trailed 2-0 after the first period, but had tied the game during the second frame. Yann Danis registered the win with 21 stops.
Sunday: Devils 5, Sound Tigers 2
After trailing early, the Devils answered with authority in a 5-2 win against the Sound Tigers Sunday at Webster Bank Arena. Raman Hrabarenka, Paul Thompson, Graham Black, Ryan Kujawinski and Mike Sislo each scored. Netminder Yann Danis extended his winning streak to six games, making 25 saves.
