What To Watch For: Dec. 23-29

The Albany Devils will take a three-day Holiday break before returning to practice Thursday at Times Union Center. The team is gearing up for its first three-in-three weekend of the season. The Devils host the Adirondack Phantoms Friday at 7 pm and the Portland Pirates Saturday at 5 pm. The club then travels to face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Sunday at 3pm. All three games can be streamed online or on mobile devices through ahllive.com.

Last week, the Devils had their franchise-record six-game winning streak halted with a 3-2 overtime loss at Binghamton. Additionally, their regulation loss at Bridgeport Sunday ended a nine-game point streak, which tied for the longest in club history. The 2006-07 team registered points in nine-consecutive games between Mar. 3-23. This season’s nine-game run is tied for the longest in the AHL with Abbotsford’s stretch between Oct. 30 and Nov. 15.

The Devils are second in the Northeast Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference at 17-8-2-1 (37 pts.). The team is 9-4-1-0 at home and 8-4-1-1 on the road. The Phantoms and the Sound Tigers are tied for third in the division and tied for 10th in the conference. Adirondack is 13-12-0-2 (28 pts.), including a 7-5-0-1 road record, while Bridgeport is 12-14-1-3 (28 pts.) with an 8-7-1-0 home mark. The Pirates are fourth in the Northeast Division and 13th in the conference at 11-10-1-4 (27 pts.) with a 6-5-1-1 road mark.

Friday’s game at Times Union Center features “SEFCU College Night” with $10 tickets for students. Additionally, “Happy Hour” for all fans 21-or-older with $2 domestic drafts is between 6-7 pm. Saturday’s affair includes the “Holiday Special,” providing $10 admission for all fans at the box office. The first 1,600 fans to arrive will receive a free Albany Devils Zamboni Bank.

With two more games against Northeast Division rivals this week, the Devils will try and improve on their record against the division. Albany is 11-5-1-0, earning 23 of its 37 points.
