The Devils face off against the Marlies for the first round of the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs.

During the last week, the Devils have lost John Quenneville and Miles Wood to NHL recalls and Scott Wedgewood to shoulder surgery. Thus is the life in the American Hockey League.

Update on Scott Wedgewood

On Tuesday morning, Scott Wedgewood had successful surgery to fix a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

The American Hockey League season is just about a quarter of the way completed and the Albany Devils sit atop the North Division standings.

Scott Wedgewood is being ruled out indefinitely after suffering a shoulder injury during Friday’s game.

Petr Straka was a healthy scratch for the first 10 Lehigh Valley games. Now he is a top-six forward for the Devils.

With just one win in their previous five games, the Albany Devils hit the reset button last week. After four days of practice, the team responded with back-to-back home victories: 6-3 against Hershey Friday and 4-3 against St. John’s Saturday.

Notebook: The wait is finally over

After nearly a full week without a game, the Devils host the Bears Friday.

Another hard practice was instore for the Albany Devils Wednesday at Times Union Center. The team will have played just one game during the seven days by the time it hosts the Hershey Bears Friday at 7 pm. Head Coach Rick Kowalsky is using the time for implementation, conditioning and to experiment with line combinations.

Tuesday’s practice was not for the faint hearted.

The Devils hope the power play can get them back to their winning ways.
