ALBANY DEVILS DAILY BRIEFING
Tuesday, February 23, 2016
• TODAY’S TOP THREE
Excelling Five-on-Five: Unlike their previous two winning streaks of five or more games, the Devils have not relied on their power play for offensive success. Recently, the team has scored the majority of its goals playing five-on-five.
“It’s no question scoring some goals five-on-five is key for us,” said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. “You don’t want to be a one trick pony with your offense. The power play, we would like to do better now. We could probably have some more comfortable leads or wins in these situations.”
Injury Status For Wednesday: Defensemen Brandon Burlon and Vojtech Mozik and forward Blake Pietila will miss Wednesday’s contest against the St. John’s IceCaps. All three players missed practice Tuesday. Burlon was ill, Mozik has an upper-body injury and Pietila is out with a lower-body ailment.
Welcome Back To Times Union Center: Albany County and the Times Union have agreed on terms to keep the newspaper’s name on the county-owned, SMG-managed arena through 2020. According to a report by the Times Union, the agreement will include an in-kind advertising opportunity for local businesses to partner with the Devils. A similar program was first initiated during last offseason.
