Schneider’s Road To Recovery Runs Through Albany: The importance and quality of the AHL was on display during the Devils’ practice today at Knickerbacker Ice Arena. New Jersey netminder and NHL All-Star Cory Schneider was assigned to Albany for conditioning as he recovers from injury.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for the AHL,” Schneider said. “I spent three years in Manitoba and I played about 150 games in the American League. I’m no stranger to what this league is about and how much it helps you as a player. I have all the time in the world for this league.”
Devils Add Mingoia From Providence College: The Devils signed forward Trevor Mingoia to an Amateur Tryout Agreement and the 24-year-old joined the team for today’s practice. Mingoia recently completed his collegiate career at Providence College (Hockey East). This past season, he finished second on the team with 37 points, producing 14 goals and 23 assists in 36 contests. He was named the Hockey East Player of the Week three times during the season and garnered Hockey East Player of the Month recognition during January. Mingoia was also named a Walter Brown Award semifinalist for the second consecutive season, an award given to the best American-born college hockey player in New England.
Brodeur, Hughes Released From PTOs: Defenseman Mathieu Brodeur and forward Gunnar Hughes, who signed PTOs with Albany last week, have been released from their tryouts. Both players, who made their Devils’ debuts during last weekend’s games, are expected to rejoin the Adirondack Thunder (ECHL).
