• TODAY’S TOP THREE
Weekend Recap: The Devils crossed the border last week for a trio of games against both North Division Canadian teams. After dropping back-to-back games at Toronto, 4-0, Tuesday and at St. John’s, 3-1, Friday, the Devils got back in the win column against the IceCaps with an overtime victory, 5-4, Saturday. Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond was reinserted into the lineup Saturday and provided a spark for the Devils. He setup a pair of goals and finished a +2.
Holding Steady: Despite earning two of a possible six points, the Devils remain in second place in both the Eastern Conference and the North Division. With 57 games played, the team owns a 34-15-8-0 record (.667). Two of Albany’s three opponents this week rank in the top five: Toronto (first) and Utica (fifth).
Net Losses: Cory Schneider’s MCL sprain led to Yann Danis’ recall on Saturday. Ken Appleby was between the pipes for the team’s 5-4 overtime win at St. John’s and Newfoundland native Doug Pippy signed an ATO as an emergency backup. Now back from their road trip, the Devils will need to bring in another goaltender if Scott Wedgewood is not ready to make his return from a shoulder injury suffered on Jan. 27. A good indicator will be during Tuesday’s practice if Wedgewood, who has been skating on his own, participates.
