Welcome To The Family: Late last night, the New Jersey Devils announced the signing of right winger Nick Lappin to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning in 2016-17. The 23-year-old will spend the remainder of this season playing for Albany on an Amateur Tryout agreement. Head Coach Rick Kowalsky said that Lappin could be in the lineup for Friday’s game at Binghamton and sees him in a top-six forward role.
Thompson Sidelined: Paul Thompson missed Saturday’s game and is out indefinitely according to Kowalsky. The 27-year-old sustained an upper-body injury during Albany’s game Friday at St. John’s. Thompson has missed some time this season because of a shoulder injury suffered on Oct. 25 against Binghamton. However, Kowalsky indicated that the latest ailment is unrelated to a preexisting injury.
Playoff Picture: The end of the regular season is a little more than a month away and yesterday the American Hockey League tweeted a graphic showcasing the current Calder Cup Playoff picture. Currently, the Devils would have home-ice advantage in a first round matchup against Utica. Bridgeport would earn a crossover berth, knocking Rochester out of the Divisional Semifinal, and face Toronto.
