Danis Perfect As Devils Sweep Weekend

HARTFORD, CT – Yann Danis has come close to his 21st career AHL shutout three different times during his first eight starts. On Saturday, the veteran netminder was perfect, helping the Albany Devils to a 4-0 victory against the Hartford Wolf Pack at XL Center.

Danis, who has allowed one or fewer goals in four games, made 24 saves — including half in the third period — for his sixth victory of the season, improving to 6-1-2. The 34-year-old has not lost in regulation since the first game of the season on Oct. 10 at Binghamton.

The Devils registered their sixth victory in the last nine games and improved to 6-3-2-0 on the season. The Wolf Pack dropped their third consecutive game and are 6-5-1-0.

The final score is not indicative of how the Devils were playing midway through the game. The team got caught for an extended shift and Rod Pelley took a delay of game penalty at 10:18, shooting the puck over the glass. Trailing 1-0, the Wolf Pack went onto the power play, but that is when the Devils took control.

Albany first drew a Hartford holding penalty at 11:02 to negate the power play and then Corey Tropp scored 53 second later to make it a 2-0 game. Reid Boucher followed 18 seconds later to end Hartford netminder Magnus Hellberg’s night.

The goalie change didn’t help the Wolf Pack because before the end of the second period, Blake Coleman redirected Tropp’s pass, beating Jeff Malcolm at 17:41.

Tropp and Coleman both finished with a goal and an assist. Mike Sislo opened the scoring with his team-leading seventh goal, extending his point streak to seven games. The defensive paring of Seth Helgeson and Vojtect Mozik were both a +3.

Albany returns to action next Friday with a 7:05 pm game against the Providence Bruins at Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Fans can follow the action online at ahllive.com or over the airwaves at 104.5 “The Team” ESPN Radio.
