ALBANY, NY – The Albany Devils are the only unbeaten team remaining after the first two weeks of the American Hockey League action. Coming off back-to-back victories during opening weekend, the Devils went three-for-three during their three-game weekend.
The Devils downed the Binghamton Senators, 3-2, Friday in a shootout and then beat the Utica Comets, 3-2, Saturday. During their only road game of the set, Albany prevailed against the Providence Bruins, 4-3, Sunday in overtime.
Albany used all three goaltenders during the weekend: Ken Appleby Friday, Scott Wedgewood Saturday and Mackenzie Blackwood Sunday. For Blackwood, the game was his first career start and he made 42 saves.
Sixteen different Devils registered at least one point during the weekend. Reece Scarlett led the way with three points, producing a goal and an assist. Rookie Jan Mandat made his debut Saturday and netted the game-winning goal.
The Devils will play three games during a four day span this week. They travel to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Wednesday (7:05 pm) before returning home for back-to-back games against the Toronto Marlies Friday (7:00 pm) and Saturday (5:00 pm).
