ALBANY, NY – Add Ryan Kujawinski and Nick Lappin to the Albany Devils injury list. Both players missed Tuesday’s 4-1 win against the Springfield Falcons, forcing Albany to dress just 11 forwards for the second consecutive game.
According to Head Coach Rick Kowalsky, Kujawinski, who is suffering from a lower-body injury, is questionable for this weekend’s games at Syracuse Friday and at Hershey Sunday. Lappin, who left last Sunday’s game at Bridgeport with an upper-body injury, “is certainly not available this week at all.”
Despite the injuries and recent recalls, the Devils are still finding ways to win hockey games. On Tuesday, they had four players in the lineup with fewer than eight AHL games logged this season: Ben Johnson (8), Joe Faust (5), Paul Geiger (2) and Gunnar Hughes (1).
“These are extreme situations right here and now,” Kowalsky said. “I talked to guys about our structure and our habits and the details of our game which have been great all year. We don’t even have twelve forwards. It’s a little more ice time for a lot of guys. Gunnar Hughes came in and did a great job, Ben Johnson was exceptional tonight. The guys who are supposed to be good were good for us.”
With Blake Pietila being summoned to New Jersey, Albany has 10 healthy forwards on its roster currently.
