Marlies Use Special Teams To Down Devils

ALBANY, NY — The Toronto Marlies used a pair of power-play goals to slide past the Albany Devils, 3-0, Sunday at Times Union Center. Toronto’s Antoine Bibeau stopped all 35 shots he faced, helping the Marlies to their 52 victory of the season — 52-15-5-1. The Devils, who only trail the Marlies in the standings, moved to 43-20-8-2.

Scott Wedgewood had his seven-game streak without a regulation loss and his four-game winning streak ended. He made 15 stops.

Both of Toronto’s man-up tallies came during the second period. Eric Faille scored on a backhand that hit the crossbar and then inched over the line at 8:42. Richard Clune’s redirect in front made it a 2-0 score at 19:56.

Zach Hyman finished the scoring with an empty-net goal at 17:53 of the third period.

Albany welcomed Vojtech Mozik, Blake Pietila and Mike Sislo back to the lineup after their stints in the NHL. Prior to the game, the AHL’s Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Michael Murray presented Sislo with his 2015-16 Second Team All-Star Award and Head Coach Rick Kowalsky with the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding coach.
