ALBANY, NY – Having the AHL’s reigning MVP has its advantages – see Brian O’Neill’s back-to-back game-winning, overtime goals on Mar. 5 and 11. However, the Devils had to adjust their lineups before Sunday’s game against the first-place Marlies because O’Neill was sidelined.
“Lower body,” Head Coach Rick Kowalsky confirmed after the game. “It was just bothering him Friday and he aggravated it yesterday. Hopefully, the next couple of days he’ll get some rest and feel good.”
The good news for the Devils is O’Neill isn’t expected to miss significant time. Kowalsky seemed to indicate that he may be back in the lineup for Wednesday’s 7 pm contest against Providence. O’Neill, who started the season with New Jersey, has played 30 games for Albany this season, producing nine goals, 13 assists and a +6 rating.
