Preview: Devils at Americans, 7:35 PM

DEVILS (16-7-3-0) at AMERICANS (13-12-1-1)

ALBANY, NY – In the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Albany Devils hope to head into the Holiday Break on a positive note when they travels to face the Rochester American Saturday at 7:35 pm.

Albany, which is 7-3-0-0 in its last 10 games, is second in the North Division and third in the Eastern Conference at 16-7-3-0 (.673). Rochester is sixth in the division and tied for 10th in the conference at 13-12-1-1 (.519).


• Albany: Joseph Blandisi and Brian O’Neill have joined the team after New Jersey reassigned the pair earlier this week. Both players are expected to play in top-six roles, adding to the Devils offensive weaponry. Blandisi ranks fifth on the team with 16 points (7g-9a) in 18 games. O’Neill, who New Jersey claimed off waivers earlier in the season, was the AHL’s MVP last year. He helped the Manchester Monarchs to the Calder Cup title, registering a league-leading 80 points in 71 contests.

• Rochester: The Americans have momentum coming into Saturday’s game, having defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack, 7-1, Friday on home ice. During that game 14 different players had points and four defenseman registered a goal. Amerks defensemen Matt Donovan, Bobby Sanguinetti, Chad Ruhwedel and Jerome Leduc scored the first four goals before Justin Bailey, Jason Akeson and Jean Dupuy each tallied in the third period to round out the scoring.


• All-Time: The Devils and Americans are meeting for the second time since the 2012-13 season. Saturday’s game will be the 14th all-time between the two clubs and the Devils are 6-6-0-1 with a 3-3-0-1 home mark and a 3-3-0-0 road record.

• Last Meeting: The Devils used two power-play goals to defeat the Americans, 2-1, on Dec. 5 at Times Union Center. Max Novak scored his first career goal at 2:34 of the game and Mike Sislo made it 2-0 at 7:42 of the second. Rochester’s Brady Austin pulled his team within one at 1:29 of the third. Netminder Yann Danis earned the win, making 23 saves along the way.
