Preview: Devils at IceCaps, 2 PM
ALBANY, NY — The Albany Devils and the St. John’s IceCaps have a quick turnaround after last night’s game, which the visitors won 4-2. These North Division rivals faceoff for the second time in as many days and for the fifth time this season today at 2 pm.
Despite yesterday’s loss, the Devils still lead the IceCaps in the standings. Albany is second in the division and third in the conference at 23-10-6-0 (.667). St. John’s is third in the division and sixth in the conference at 18-14-6-3 (.549).
What To Watch For
• Albany: During yesterday’s affair, Jim O’Brien had a pair of goals, giving him eight points – five goals and three assists – during his last seven AHL contests. A veteran of 286 career AHL games, O’Brien has totaled 161 points, producing 69 tallies and 92 assists with Binghamton, Hershey and Albany. Expect to see Scott Wedgewood between the pipes. The 23-year-old is 6-1-2 this season with a 1.68 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage. He has helped Albany to points in seven straight starts (5-0-2).
• St. John’s: Morgan Ellis, Nikita Scherbak, Charles Hudon and Sven Andrighetto each scored for the IceCaps last night and goaltender Zachary Fucale turned aside 25 shots. St. John’s roster includes 2016 NHL NHL-Star John Scott, who was traded from Arizona to Montreal earlier this month and was loaned to St. John’s last Saturday. Scott was voted as the Pacific Division captain for the NHL’s new All-Star 3-on-3 tournament.
