Preview: Devils at IceCaps, 7 PM
ALBANY, NY – Playing a team on back-to-back days always creates a bit of a playoff atmosphere regardless if it’s in October, June or in this case January. The Devils host the St. John’s IceCaps for a two-game set at Times Union Center, starting Friday at 7 pm. Albany will try and avenge a pair of losses at St. John’s a month ago.
The teams are neighbors in the North Division standings: Albany is second with a 23-9-6-0 record (.684), while St. John’s is third with a 17-14-6-3 mark (.538). The Devils are third in the Eastern Conference and the IceCaps are tied for sixth.
What To Watch For
• Albany: The fourth line has been a high point for the Devils most recently and during Wednesday’s game the combination of Ben Thomson, Rod Pelley and Chris McKelvie found their way on the scoresheet twice as Thomson found the back of the net twice. Yann Danis is expected to get the start Friday. The 2016 AHL All-Star is 16-6-4 with a 2.24 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.
• St. John’s: Like the Devils, the IceCaps are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss Wednesday. Max Friberg and Sven Andrighetoo both scored and Zachary Fucale made 25 of 28 saves. Bud Holloway leads the team and is fifth in the AHL with 35 points. In 37 contests, he has registered 11 goals and 24 helpers.
