Preview: Devils vs. Americans, 7 PM

ALBANY, NY – Nearly two months have passed since the Albany Devils last loss on home ice. The team puts its 10-game home winning streak on the line when they host the Rochester Americans Wednesday at 7 pm. Albany, which combined for 10 goals in its last two home games, has outscored opponents, 59-27, at Times Union Center.

Entering Wednesday’s contest, the Devils are second in the North Division and third in the Eastern Conference at 22-8-4-0 (.706). The Americans are tied for fifth in the division and tied for ninth in the conference at 17-16-2-1 (.514).

What To Watch For

• Albany: When leading after two periods, the Devils are 17-0-2-0. Albany has outscored opponents, 33-22, in the third and their plus-11 goal differential rating is fourth highest in the AHL. Individually, Reece Scarlett is on a four-game point streak (7a) and has two assists in each of the last three games. In 23 outings this year, he has 11 points with a goal and 10 helpers.

• Rochester: The Americans, who went 2-1-0-0 during last weekend’s three-in-three, are coming off a 2-1 loss against Syracuse Sunday. Jason Akeson and Cal O’Reilly are the team’s leading scorers with 23 points each. Akeson has seven goals and 16 helpers and O’Reilly has four tallies and a team-best 19 assists. Phil Varone is third on the team with 19 points, backed by a club-high 10 goals and nine assists.

Devils vs. Americans Series

• All-Time: Wednesday’s game will be the 15th all-time between the two clubs and the Devils are 6-7-0-1 with a 3-3-0-1 home mark and a 3-4-0-0 road record.

• Last Meeting: The Amerks used four goals during the first period en route to a 4-1 win against the Devils at Blue Cross Arena on Dec. 19. Brandon Burlon scored for Albany and Scott Wedgewood turned aside all 12 shots he faced in a 40-minute relief effort. Rochester’s goals came from Tim Schaller, Patrick Kaleta, Nick Baptiste and Colby Robak. Netminder Andrey Makarov earned his sixth victory, making 30 saves.
