Preview: Devils vs. Comets, 7 PM
ALBANY, NY — The Albany Devils and Utica Comets finish the 2015 calendar year with a home-and-home series, starting Wednesday at Times Union Center. Puck drop is at 7 pm and the Devils are trying to push their already franchise-record home winning streak to eight games. Albany’s last loss on home ice came on Nov. 21 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (5-3).
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
• Albany: The Devils have the highest home points percentage in the AHL thanks to an 11-2-1-0 mark at Times Union Center. The team’s points percentage is .821, which is ahead of San Diego and Ontario’s .792 marks. The Devils have outscored opponents, 46-19, at Times Union Center. Most recently, Albany defeated Providence, 4-1, Saturday on home ice. Scott Wedgewood made 27 saves and Brian O’Neill netted the game-winning goal. Matt Lorito, Graham Black and Corey Tropp also scored for Albany.
• Utica: Utica has points in six-straight contests, including a 4-2 win against Syracuse Sunday. David Shields, who attended Albany’s training camp, had a goal and an assist and was a +2. Netminder Richard Bachman made 20 saves. For the season, Hunter Shinkaruk leads the Comets with 24 points, including 12 goals and 12 helpers.
DEVILS VS. COMETS SERIES
• All-time: The Devils and Comets are set to faceoff for their eighth and ninth all-time meetings. Albany is 7-0-0-0 with four wins at Times Union Center and three at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
• Last Meeting: Four Devils had multiple points as the team defeated the Comets, 6-1, on Oct. 31 at Times Union Center. Joseph Blandisi led the way with four assists and Mike Sislo had two goals and an assist. Matt Lorito posted a goal and two helpers and Ben Thomson had a tally and an assist. Blake Coleman and Ryan Kujawinksi scored their first career goals. Between the pipes, Yann Danis made 20 saves.
