Rookies Help Devils To Preseason Win
HERSHEY, PA — Rookies Max Novak, Blake Coleman, Joseph Blandisi and Ken Appleby helped the Albany Devils to a 2-1 victory against the Hershey Bears Thursday at Giant Center. Novak and Coleman provided the goals, Blandisi had a pair of assists and Appleby made 28 saves as the Devils go to 1-0-0-0 in preseason action.
Novak, who played four games with Albany at the end of the 2014-15 season on an amatuer tryout, opened the scoring on the power play 46 seconds into the second period. Raman Hrabarenka and Blandisi were credited with the helpers.
Hershey’s response came five minutes later when Nathan Walker scored shorthanded at 5:49.
After a wave of fighting majors in the second and early parts of the third, Blandisi setup Coleman for the game-winner at 13:27.
From there Appleby closed out the game, sealing the win with a two-pad stack among chaos in the crease during the final minute of play.
The teams racked up 106 penalty minutes and Albany went 1-for-5 with the man advantage. Hershey was 0-for-4.
The Devils conclude their preseason schedule Friday with 7:05 pm start against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena.
