ALBANY, NY — It’s now (unofficially) the second half of the AHL season. The 2016 AHL All-Star Classic was a lot of fun and Yann Danis and Mike Sislo represented the Devils and the North Division well, but it’s time to focus on the final 33 games, securing a playoff spot and making a run towards the league championship.
Here three storylines we are following this week:
Back To Work
Coming off the AHL All-Star break, the Albany Devils begin their push towards the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs with a 7:05 pm start against the Providence Bruins Friday at Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The Devils then return for a 5 pm puck drop against the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday at Times Union Center. With 33 games remaining, the Devils are second in the North Division and third in the Eastern Conference with a 24-12-7-0 record (.640).
Both the Bruins and the Wolf Pack are flying high currently. Providence is 9-1-3-0 during their last 13 outings and have at least one point in 11 straight contests (8-0-3-0). Hartford has one loss in its last 10 outings, going 9-1-0-0.
Back To The NHL
After being returned on loan to Albany last Wednesday, Joseph Blandisi, Reid Boucher and Seth Helgeson were summoned back to the New Jersey Devils Monday. Blandisi has 21 points (7g-14a) in 24 AHL contests and seven points (2g-5a) in 12 NHL outings. Boucher is third on the team with 29 points (17g-12a) in 32 AHL games and he has three points (2g-1a) in nine NHL appearance. Helgeson has seven points (2g-5a) and a +11 rating in 33 AHL outings and three NHL games logged.
